Alcon commenced operations in Australia in 1968 with 6 staff and has enjoyed impressive growth in the areas of ophthalmic pharmaceuticals, ophthalmic surgical products, including surgical and diagnostic equipment, as well as contact lens care products. Alcon Australia now employs over 135 staff and also provides support for operations in New Zealand, Fiji, and Papua New Guinea.
To be a true partner in the global eye care community, Alcon has long believed that we must reach out to people around the world who cannot afford or do not have access to the services that can save or restore their sight. For more than 40 years, Alcon has supported thousands of caring physicians in bringing the miracle of sight to those in need.
Alcon provides products at no charge to eye care medical missions in 82 countries. Alcon Australia provides assistance to organizations which include The John Fawcett Foundation in Bali, Pacific Islands Project, Fiji Eye Camp and Eyes On Tibet. Alcon also supports projects undertaken by independent physicians providing much needed eye care in places such as India, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, East Timor and Burma as well as in remote areas of Australia.
