Nearby Schaffhausen is home to our research and development facility and manufacturing plant for Grieshaber® ophthalmic surgical instruments. Established in 1972 to facilitate global distribution, today Alcon Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (APL) is 210-people strong in Fribourg. This team focuses on selling and distributing products to more than 50 Alcon subsidiaries and 80 export markets. The 34,000 square feet of facilities also serve business support functions for Alcon's locations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Alcon Grieshaber
Located in Schaffhausen since a merger in 2000, Alcon Grieshaber operates in approximately 12,000 square feet of research, development and manufacturing facilities. Specializing in the micro-mechanical field, its 130 Alcon employees focus on delivering precision ocular surgery instrumentation to markets around the world.
Alcon Management S.A.
Located in Geneva, Alcon Management S.A. was established in 2008 as the Regional Management Center for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. At the approximately 22,000 square-foot office, 40 Alcon employees, including a regional vice president, focus on providing business management support to Alcon's markets across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The location also serves as home to Alcon's R&D Operations outside the United States.
ESBATech
An Alcon Biomedical Research Unit
ESBATech is Alcon's biomedical research facility, based in Zurich-Schlieren, Switzerland. Acquired by Alcon in 2009, ESBATech provides biotechnology research capabilities for ophthalmic use. At this facility, approximately 60 employees focus on advancing therapeutic antibody fragments for the future of eye care.
