Recruiting Process

How do I register with the Alcon website to be notified of positions that match my background?

Click "View current opportunities" and you will see a list of available opportunities. You will be asked to register by providing your e-mail address, creating a career profile which will allow for future notifications of jobs that match your background and allow you to upload your resume.

You are encouraged to add your resume or CV to your Career Profile, as it is required when you apply for a specific position.

How do I apply for an open position online?

Click "View current opportunities" and you will see a list of available opportunities. If you see a position of interest, click "Job Title" to view the job description. Read it carefully to see if you are qualified and eligible. Click the "Submit now" button to begin the application process. If you are a registered user, enter your e-mail address and password to access your information. If you are a new visitor, you will be asked to register by providing your e-mail address and the areas of interest to you.

After logging in/registering, you must complete the application form by providing your contact information, resume or CV and answering questions specific to the job. (Any information previously included in your Career Profile will be displayed for your convenience.) There are three options to include your resume/CV: you can either copy or paste a plain text resume/CV; you may attach a single file; or use the system resume builder to create your resume. Note that you must complete the application form to successfully submit your information. You will receive an e-mail confirming receipt of your submission.

Alcon does not accept paper-based applications or resumes. Only online applications submitted via this site for specific opportunities will be considered.

What happens to my application after I have submitted it?

Once you submit your online application, you will receive an e-mail confirming receipt of your application. Recruiters review candidate pools to identify those candidates whose experiences and qualifications most closely match the position specifications. If your application meets our initial screening criteria, you may be contacted by e-mail or telephone by one of our recruiters to discuss the next steps in the election process. Your profile will also be retained in our recruiting database for possible matches against future open positions.

If your application does not meet our initial criteria, you will not be considered further for that specific opportunity. However, your profile will be kept in our recruiting database. If a match should occur between your profile and future open positions, you will be notified by e-mail and invited to return to our website.

How long will it take to review my resume?

We process all applications as expeditiously as possible. Typically, you will receive an acknowledgement e-mail from Alcon within 48 hours after you submit your resume for a specific opportunity. We will contact you if you are selected for an interview. Applications of those individuals who are not suitable for the position will automatically be kept in our database from the time of receipt.

We appreciate your patience as we carefully review each candidate's background and credentials, including yours, against the experience and qualifications sought for the opportunity.

Can I upload my resume without applying for a specific position?

Yes. Your resume and profile will be saved in our system and will be available to our recruiters.

How can I be notified of new positions?

By selecting the notification option in your profile, a job match e-mail will be sent to you when a position which reflects the interests and preferences you indicated in your Career Profile becomes available.

I received a Job Match e-mail, now what?

A Job Match e-mail is simply a notification service. You may click the link in the e-mail to review the position to determine whether you are interested in the position and whether you meet the requirements. If the position is of interest and you meet the requirements, you are welcome to apply for the position.

If I receive a Job Match e-mail indicating that multiple positions may align with my interests and preferences, do I need to bid on each position separately?

Yes. You must apply for each position. Information contained in your Career Profile will be pre-populated (and available to edit), but you will also be asked to provide additional information specifically related to the position for which you are applying.

Why am I asked to provide additional information after I already established a Career Profile?

In addition to your resume/CV, your Career Profile contains general information about your career preferences and interests. When applying for a specific position, you need to provide additional information as it relates to the position for which you are applying. The recruiter and hiring manager need this information to assess the degree of alignment between your specific skills and experiences and the skills and experiences required for the position.

How much time do I have to respond to a notification I receive about an opportunity?

Generally speaking, there is no prescribed set time limit for responding to a job listing. Posting periods vary and depend on a number of factors, including the type or location of a position and/or the hiring manager’s time frame to fill it. Because of the high volume of candidates who typically apply for posted positions, we recommend you respond quickly if you have an interest in a position.

Can you tell me if a job has been filled?

Generally speaking, positions that appear on this site are open and active, even though the interview process for some might have begun.

If you no longer see a particular position, it has been filled or it is no longer available.

Do you accept applications or resumes by mail?

No. We only accept applications online. Electronic applications can be processed more quickly and instantly integrated into our candidate database if they meet our selection criteria. If you do not have an e-mail account, you can choose one from Yahoo Mail, or Hotmail to sign up for a free account.

Referring Jobs and/or Candidates

While viewing the job listings, I saw a position that would be perfect for one of my friends. Can I send the job to him/her?

Absolutely, as long as the position is posted externally by Alcon, we hope you will refer a friend. Not all jobs posted internally are posted on the external site. Staffing may determine that the position is reasonably expected to be filled by an internal candidate and thus not post it externally. Visit Alcon's external website at www.alconcareers.com. Click on "Jobs at Alcon" and follow the links to search jobs. Open each job you wish to refer and click on the link at the bottom of the job which reads "Refer this job to a friend." Complete the "Refer a Friend" page by entering your friend's e-mail address and your e-mail address and then clicking on "OK." Your friend will receive an e-mail notification including a hyperlink that will take them directly to the job listing that you are referring. Your friend must then actually apply for the position in order to be considered for it. Associate referral forms are no longer necessary.

A job was referred to me by an associate of Alcon Laboratories, Inc. What does this mean?

This e-mail will include a hyperlink which will take you directly to the job that was referred to you. You will be contacted if your resume is identified as a match to (a) position(s) on which you apply. Please note that to be considered for (a) specific position(s), you must apply for the position after you have received the e-mail notification.

A job was referred to me by an associate of Alcon Laboratories, Inc. How do I note who referred me?

The candidate will be asked "How did you find out about this position?" and they should respond by typing then name of the Alcon associate who referred them in the box "Referred by Associate." The associate listed as the referral source will be eligible for a referral bonus for applicable positions. For tracking and validation purposes, candidates must be referred via this website for a current associate to receive a referral award.

A job was referred to me by an associate of Alcon Laboratories, Inc. I applied for the position and was not hired. Will you consider my resume/CV for other opportunities?

Yes. By having your Career Profile in our database, you maximize the opportunity for your resume/CV to be reviewed (and potentially matched to positions) by recruiters throughout the company. To further increase your opportunity to be considered, we also recommend you visit this website regularly and apply for those positions in which you are interested. You should be certain to list the person who referred you on each position. You should note this in the "Additional Information" page during the registration process. You will be asked "How did you find out about this position?" and you should respond by typing the name of the Alcon Associate who referred you in the box titled "Referred by Associate."
