Our Huntington, W. Va., facility is responsible for manufacturing, packaging and shipping the world's leading intraocular lens (IOL) – ACRYSOF®. Manufacturing's job is to optimize process control. Alcon's highly tenured and well-trained 800-plus employees produce 6 million intraocular lenses a year. Quality is at the core of every step taken toward producing our lenses at this state-of-the-art facility.
Alcon's ACRYSOF® lenses are implanted in six of every 10 cataract surgery patients. This awesome responsibility reinforces our dedication to excellence in each and every lens we produce. That's why our engineers and technicians conduct 77 different quality inspections to ensure consistency and safety. Man, machine and material are each traced for every lens produced at the plant, and every single lens we produce is traceable for at least 30 years. Furthermore, the final two-thirds of the production and inspection of each lens is conducted in a class-10,000 cleanroom to ensure the lens is ultra-clean even prior to sterilization.
