Nestled among tall trees, old homes, quiet schools and small churches, Alcon's Precision Device facility (APD) employs more than 600 people manufacturing quality ophthalmic medical devices and instruments. Acquired by Alcon in 1988, APD maintains a low profile, preferring to focus on its products and people rather than outside attention.

APD is responsible for manufacturing the majority of Alcon's disposable single-use medical devices for the globe. This includes everything from sutures, sponges, cystitomes and cannulas to incisional instruments, vitrectomy probes and phaco tips for our LEGACY® and INFINITI® Vision cataract systems and ACCURUS® vitreoretinal system.

Our production processes at APD range from fully automated to completely manual, depending upon the detail and precision requirements of each product. All products produced in our plant are extremely small and require a surprising amount of skill and precision to piece together, by hand or machine, hence the plant's name: Alcon Precision Device facility.

APD also enjoys distinct recognition as the first of our global facilities to earn its ISO 9000 certification. This means the plant meets established standards for manufacturing and quality control and is recognized worldwide by governmental bodies, manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, wholesalers and retail establishments. The distinction highlights APD's attention to quality and details, as its employees continually strive toward improving manufacturing excellence.
