Physicians offer Alcon more than just a link to patients in need of eye care – they are trusted partners with 
whom we work side-by-side to produce more effective solutions to the world's eye care issues. Our philosophy is to not only provide eye care professionals with better tools to treat today's eye conditions, but also to assist them in their continued efforts to keep their skills up to date through our educational offerings. Ultimately, the end result is a better product and a stronger relationship between us and the eye care professional and thus better care for the patient.
Spotlight: Bringing About Change Together
An example of this partnership is Alcon's collaboration with eye surgeons in the Far East. Several years ago, Alcon was one of the first ophthalmic companies to enter Thailand. At the time, Thai eye surgeons were using relatively antiquated procedures and equipment, due to the lack of local training and available technologies. By entering the market in a comprehensive and fully supportive manner, Alcon was able to provide new equipment and training to local eye surgeons. Thai surgeons were so motivated and skilled that they moved from no usage of small incision cataract removal, currently the standard in most developed areas throughout the world, to 95 percent usage - in three short years. The end result is a market of highly skilled ophthalmic surgeons using state of the art technologies and techniques, which greatly benefits the Thai patient population.
