About A Research Study Sponsored by Alcon Research, Ltd. to Evaluate an
Experimental Treatment for Wet AMD
Alcon Research, Ltd has made a new experimental medicine for wet AMD. This medicine is an ”angiostatic agent”.
With the help of eye consultants at some
specialist centres, the company is doing a research study to look at the ability
of Anecortave Acetate to prevent the growth of blood vessels under the retina.
They also hope to find out if Anecortave acetate is safe to use as an injection. The next sections of this web site
summarise some information about the research study.
Who can volunteer to
participate in this study?
Although a study doctor will eventually determine patient eligibility for this
study, patients may be eligible to participate if they are age 50 or over and
have a diagnosis of wet AMD that includes abnormal blood vessels under the
retina with certain characteristics.
The blood vessels must have a majority (more than half of the lesion) of what is
called “classic” characteristics. This can only be seen by using a special
photographic technique (angiography) described in the following sections.
For more information about
participating in this clinical trial, please
complete the
ONLINE ENQUIRY FORM.
We will contact your
General Practitioner to find out whether the research study could apply to you.
