What
are the side effects to be expected with the study medicine used in this
research study?
Patients
have been injected with the study medicine or placebo at several research
centres in the United States, Australia and Europe, many of them numerous times.
These patients experienced no serious pain or side effects directly related to
the injection procedure. However, most medicines have side effects. The medicine
used in this study may cause all, some or none of the following:
Drooping
of the upper eyelid; pain, discomfort, tearing or itching in the eye; cataract;
unequal size of pupils; lowering of the pressure of fluid inside the eye;
swelling of the eyelid; bleeding under the conjunctiva; double vision; decreased
vision; back pain.
Please note that most of the
possible effects above may be caused the injection procedure itself but that
they are not serious and none will last. However, patients may experience these
effects even if they receive the placebo. Other effects, such as cataract and
decreased vision, may also be due to ageing or the progression of the disease.
