Alcon partners with High Performance Vision Associates to Provide Vision Evaluations for Golf Pros at the Meijer LPGA Classic

82 LPGA members participated in evaluations prior to tournament play
Sports vision experts educated athletes about link between visual acuity and sports performance
Fort Worth, Texas, August 6, 2014– Alcon, the global leader in eye care, partnered with High Performance Vision Associates – a group of sports-minded eye care practitioners – to evaluate the visual-motor skills of professional golfers at the Meijer LPGA Classic in Grand Rapids, Mich.
“Golf is a visually demanding sport, requiring acuity at all distances and often for long periods of time,” said Jim Murphy, Vice President and General Manager of US Vision Care for Alcon. “We talked with LPGA members about maintaining healthy vision both on and off the course, and about our portfolio of daily disposable contact lenses that may be an option for athletes looking for the latest innovation in contact lenses, such as DAILIES® Total 1 contact lenses.”
More than 80 professional golfers participated in the evaluations, which included a variety of visual acuity tests, from eye-hand coordination, to tracking ability, to response time, to learning which eye is their dominant eye.
“Athletes focus on their chosen sport with such intensity – training, building strength, carefully selecting their equipment and monitoring what they eat – but yet their eye care is often left out of this important mix,” said Donald S. Teig, OD, FAAO, and founder of “The A Team” - High Performance Vision Associates. “I’m thrilled to partner with Alcon to provide vision evaluations for members of the LPGA and to educate them on the ways to help improve their vision.”
