Alcon partners with professional football player Victor Cruz to bring game changing vision technology to athletes at IMG Academy Don Teig’s "A" Team of sports vision doctors help put elite athletes through their visual paces at IMG Academy
BRADENTON, Florida, July 13, 2015 — Alcon, the global leader in eye care, traveled to world-renowned IMG Academy to evaluate the visual-motor skills of its athletes and bring them the latest innovations in vision care technology, including DAILIES TOTAL1® contact lenses. Alcon also invited professional football player Victor Cruz to participate in the eye evaluations and share his perspective on the importance of vision with IMG Academy student–athletes and campers.
"When I’m on the field I don't want to think about my eyes; I need my contact lenses to be comfortable and perform at a high level," said Victor Cruz, professional football player. "That’s why I wear DAILIES TOTAL1® contact lenses."
Members of the IMG Academy varsity football team followed alongside Cruz as the “A” Team of sports vision doctors coached the athletes through a "vision training camp" comprising 13 vision tests to determine how well the athletes’ eyes perform in a game setting. The athletes completed a variety of tests, including eye–hand coordination, tracking ability, response time, focus agility, visual acuity and eye dominance.
Student–athletes were then given a personal assessment of their visual acuity, helping them understand how imperative vision is to their sports performance. The athletes were also educated on different ways they can help improve their visual acuity, through eye exercises or with corrective contact lenses.
With DAILIES TOTAL1® contact lenses, Alcon has delivered a breakthrough line of daily disposable contact lenses featuring the world’s first and only water gradient technology that can deliver exceptional breathability and comfort simultaneously, once considered impossible to find in one contact lens. This technology is a game changer for many contact lens wearers.
"DAILIES TOTAL1® contact lenses are designed for performance," said Carla Mack, OD, FAAO, Director of Professional and Clinical Support at Alcon. "This lens provides both comfort and breathability that allows athletes at all levels — from elite pros to weekend warriors — to have an exceptional wearing experience."
