Company Reveals How It Inspires, Develops and Empowers Women Leaders
FORT WORTH, Texas, June 25, 2014 – Alcon, the global leader in eye care, has decided to take its most successful Employee Resource Group and share its learnings with the optometry community at the American Optometric Association (AOA) Meeting in Philadelphia. The Women Innovating Now (WIN) group has more than 750 members in the US, both male and female, and focuses on cultivating an inclusive environment.
“We wanted to share our mission, vision, and areas of focus with the optometric community since we know our customers are on a similar path, developing themselves and others into strong female leaders,” said Amy Patyk, leader of WIN in the US market for Alcon. Patyk will address the Women of Vision group on Wednesday evening.
By many estimates, the field of optometry will become a female dominated profession within ten years, further emphasizing the importance of women in eye care.
The WIN group at Alcon has created three strategic pillars to help drive their program: talent, culture and marketplace. The talent pillar provides opportunities for recruiting female talent, networking with women leaders and skill development for Alcon associates. The culture team seeks to understand what motivates female employees and then offers career navigation tools to help meet these needs. In marketplace, Alcon associates engage with customers, suppliers the larger eye care community and their local communities to foster engagement on this important topic.
WIN members work to create an inclusive environment where women are inspired to recognize their leadership potential, have opportunities to act on that potential and mentor a future generation of women leaders.
“By driving innovation, inclusion and personal growth for all associates, we help transform Alcon from being just a great company to work for, into the premier destination organization for the most talented professionals,” said Gary Menichini, VP and GM of US Pharmaceuticals for Alcon and head of the US Diversity and Inclusion Task Force.
