Village de la Vue Returns to Geneva for a Second Edition Dedicated to Raising Public Awareness about Eye Health

  • On May 13 and 14, 2025, the Village de la Vue will take place in Geneva, Switzerland. This initiative results from a collective effort by eye care professionals and companies in the sector coming together to voluntarily share their expertise and resources
  • On-site demonstrations will help visitors understand how eye conditions like glaucoma and dry eye are detected and managed, two issues that often go unnoticed by the public
  • Visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about the importance of eye care through educational activities and interactive games

GENEVA, May 14, 2025 – Alcon, the global leader in eye care dedicated to helping people see brilliantly, together with key partners in the eye care community, announces the second edition of the Village de la Vue. This public awareness initiative, focused on often-overlooked conditions such as glaucoma, cataract and dry eye, will take place on May 13 and 14, 2025, at Balexert, Geneva’s largest shopping and lifestyle center.

Developed in collaboration with local ophthalmologists, opticians, the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG), and industry partners such as Haag-Streit, the initiative brings together a wide network of experts united by a common goal: promote early detection, prevention, and better public understanding of the importance of eye health.

“It’s a fact that regular eye check-ups are often neglected, and by the time issues are noticed, it can be too late,” said Raj Narayanan, International President at Alcon. “The ‘Village de la Vue’ reflects the remarkable collaboration among Geneva’s eye care community, while also highlighting the essential role of proactive vision care as a pillar of our overall health and well-being. We are proud to contribute to this joint effort, which supports public education and early intervention for better long-term outcomes.”

Over the course of two days, visitors of all ages will be welcomed to explore a rich and engaging program that includes:

  • Demonstrations showing how glaucoma and dry eye are identified and monitored, conducted by professionals from the Order of Ophthalmologists of Geneva, HUG, and partner opticians.
  • Advice to encourage preventive care and regular eye check-ups.
  • Educational games and interactive activities designed to raise awareness among children and adults alike.

“The Village de la Vue reaches out to the general public. It provides information on health and the prevention of eye diseases in a cheerful and inspiring setting,” said Dr. Marc Zaninetti, President of the Geneva Order of Ophthalmologists.

“Regular check-ups with an ophthalmologist are essential, particularly during childhood when vision is still developing, and from age 40 onward when many eye conditions can develop silently,” added Pr. Gabriele Thumann, Head of the Ophthalmology Department at Geneva University Hospitals (HUG).

This collaborative effort underscores the strong commitment of Geneva’s eye care community to prevention, education, and access to quality vision care.

Alcon, the global leader in ophthalmology, has played a pivotal role in bringing the Village de la Vue to life. This commitment is part of Alcon’s social impact and sustainability strategy, particularly its focus on social impact to improve community access to eye care. Over 50 associates from the company’s global headquarters in Vernier volunteered their time for the initiative. Through this effort, Alcon reaffirms its dedication to advancing eye health and making a positive difference in the lives of individuals and communities in Geneva.
